El
Tule (The Tule
Tree)
A stop by Oaxaca's famous Tule tree on the
way to (or back from) Mitla is a must. Located
four miles east of Oaxaca, this enormous
ahuehuete cypress tree is estimated to be
more than 2,000 years old. It stands some
140 feet high and its trunk has a diameter
of 138 feet.
The Tule stands guard over the town of
Santo María el Tule and is larger than
the church behind it.
